Hirosaki
Hirosaki is a city in Aomori Prefecture, in the Tohoku Region. It was founded during the Edo Period (1600-1868) by the Tsugaru Clan and was the prefectural capital in 1871. Besides its samurai district and temples, this cultural gem is home to Hirosaki Castle, also built during the Edo Period. There is a cherry blossom festival in Spring when thousands of cherry blossoms bloom on the castle grounds, and also the Neputa Matsuri, a colorful local festival involving huge floats and dancing.
