Kakunodate
Kakunodate is a castle town in Akita prefecture in the Tohoku region of northern Honshu, Japan’s main island. Surrounded by mountains and a river, this town is mostly famous for its well-preserved samurai houses. Kakunodate is in fact one of the best places in Japan to see these samurai style houses. Surrounded by temples and ancient merchant houses, the town truly gives visitors a glimpse of feudal Japan.
