Yoshino
This mountain-top village is located in Nara Prefecture. It is in what is possibly Japan's most famous area for hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in the spring: Mt. Yoshino has tens of thousands of sakura (cherry trees) which bloom and blend with the surrounding natural scenery to create a truly breathtaking spectacle.
Yoshino also has historical ties to Shugendo, a mountain worshipping spiritual practice and way of thinking. Yoshino was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
